BOARD MEMBERS NEEDED

The Deerhorn Valley Volunteer Fire Auxiliary will not be meeting until further notice.  In order to continue with our yearly fundraising events we need board members or people to lead the planning of an event.

In regards to you’re participation in future Auxiliary fundraising events, which support our Volunteer Fire Fighters/EMT’s and the Deerhorn Valley fire station:

The Auxiliary needs a president, vice president and a secretary.  If you have leadership abilities, some extra time and a love for this community and would like to be instrumental in promoting events that will benefit the Deerhorn Valley Fire Station, please contact Phyllis Dozier or Sarah Evosevich (current Treasurer will continue).

OR are you the one that would like to be a coordinator for a future fundraiser?  It could be a Pancake Breakfast, BBQ or a fundraising event of any size or imagination

Perhaps you are an idea person or you just know how to get in and get things done, have great organizational skills, or if you prefer to be a team player or support person, and feel you have special abilities in specific areas of need and would like to serve in that capacity when needed, there is a place for you.

If you are available in any capacity, please communicate that to us, plus any ideas you may have along with any feedback or concerns that may be helpful.

Don’t forget to visit DeerhornValley.net, our community website where you are invited to contribute to its contents.

Thank you for your past and continued support.

Special wishes for a Happy New Year!

SEE A COLLAGE OF OUR HOLIDAY POT-LUCK >>

on the HOLIDAY pot-luck & craft show – A Note of Thanks

– Phyllis Dozier, DV Auxiliary

Hope you all have enjoyed the big rain and the winds.  The birds seemed to have loved it!  Many a pond owner should be happy.

One thing I do know is that this was a special group of ladies that stepped up to the plate, put their best foot forward and made it a great evening!  You all are appreciated so very much for your individual contributions, and bringing your special talents and abilities to the table.  I believe you all were generous in taking time away from the other important things in your life, to contribute your time and effort to the community.

Debbie, thanks for being an upbeat person, your smile and for the Christmas tree and other live decorations and table cloth and your leadership in the kitchen.

Jill Powell, you did a fantastic job when addressing the volunteers and making the presentation.

Sandra Ignosci, our resident Martha Stewart, was an encouragement throughout the whole process and did a lot of running around and thanks for your decorations and making the tables look festive and for that pinata and other things you did to contribute.

Kim and Ariele for their tireless work on the Antler and getting the announcement out and Kim, for your last minute signs and help with some details that come so easy for you.

Sharon is one of those behind the scenes support people who is so willing to help in so many situations and as usual was right there to help no matter what the task.

Sarah, the Auxiliary treasurer, for your support and doing the sales table and all the little things you and Alyssa helped with to get the evening put together.

Denise for your signs and beautiful display and for your inspiration to even have  arts/crafts/gifts tables.

Ruth for the brochure and the potato, salad fixings and beverages and other items and help in getting the potluck set-up.

Anne, for your help in the kitchen and all the work you do for the CSZ and work on the by-laws and conducting all those affairs including the election.

It is great to know that we will continue to have Mike and Jill with us for another term.

Rob, you are great behind the microphone and thanks soooo very much for your DVD and making it available to us and all the work you and Kim do on the fine website that we are privileged to have for our community  We love all the pictures too!  And thanks for the background music and sound system you provided for us.  We really needed it.

Mike Sandvig and Mike Lumpkin, well we always need your support and presence and help, thanks.

It's great that we have Lars to depend on and all the firefighters that are so willing to help us set-up all those tables and chairs and other things and relieve us of the heavy work and clean-up.

I thought we had a good spread of food.  I was glad to see the chili and other special dishes.  Thanks to all you who spent time in your kitchens at home preparing it beforehand.  I think you all really added to the atmosphere in that big bay.  You are very talented.

Again, my thanks to all of you who did crafts/gifts tables and to the kids that helped break the pinata.  It was also great to have Chief Kremensky and his wife join us.

Last and not least, thanks to all who helped with the clean-up.  It was great to see all those who hung around afterwards visiting with each other clear up until the doors were locked.  Community is what it is all about.

Now back to all the things we need to be doing for ourselves and this is the time of year to be enjoying all who are special to us.  Stay well and safe during the holidays.

Bless all of you,

Phyllis

[AND thank you Phyllis for your help and wonderful letter. –R&K]

REFLECTIVE ADDRESS SIGNS:

Do you have yours?

These signs are not a luxury item... they are a necessity for guiding emergency responders to your home!

There is an IMMEDIATE need throughout DV for highly-visible address signs to help locate driveways and homes. In an emergency, at night, or in smokey conditions, can firefighters or paramedics see your address sign . . . find your home? Google maps and Thomas Bros. are NOT adequate in a rural area such as Deerhorn and Lyons Valleys.

Number and street signs are still available (thank you, Susie). They are aluminum with reflective numbers. Each has four mounting holes for nails, screws, or wire attachment. They cost $20 dollars, all proceeds-go to our fire department, and you will have your sign in 2-3 weeks. An order form is available here, or you can call DV neighbor Susie Norton at 619-468-3183. The Fire Safe Council plans to apply for funds to help those who find the cost a burden.

Without clear signage, how will emergency responders know there are four homes down this feeder driveway?

Remember that what we see during the day, or in clear (not smoky) conditions is far different from what our first responders will see on a foggy night or during a major wildfire.
